The Intuitive, Compassion, and Higher Realms

NEPTUNE, planet of everything that's beyond the see, hear, taste and touch world brings us devotion, spirituality, art, music and all forms of inspiration. The ethereal nature of this planet may take years to recognize and come to terms with on a personal level. Neptune connected to a personal planet gives a dreamy nature, idealism, naivety and illusion. It also implies that we will have lessons to learn from victim, savior and martyr experiences, and that addictive behavior, either our own, or that of those we love, will be a challenge in our lives. As the second of the "transpersonal" planets, Neptune dissolves our earthly bonds enough to connect us to the otherworldly and spiritual experiences behind the curtain of every day reality.

Its highs are equaled to its lows, and the burden of everyday life, carried by the tender hearted Neptune types, takes some mature skill to handle. Early years can bring the experience that life is too scary, hurtful and negative to survive. These youths must be handled with gentle compassion and allowed the restoration that reading, connection to fantasy, art and music brings for them; otherwise they can become weak or sickly in order to acquire attention, and may later turn to drugs or alcohol for psychic relief.

By transit or in other predictive charts, Neptune dissolves issues at hand, and helps us to see beyond the limitations of daily existence. It can imply loss through naivety, particularly a lack of boundaries, and I often advise having someone besidesyourself look at the small print of any deal (or relationship) you are undertaking during this period. As it's transpersonal nature connects us to the ethereal, we may find ourselves tired and unable to be restored by sleep during the long transit of Neptune, as though our dream world requires as much from us as our waking world. Being one of the outer planets, its transits move very slowly, and it takes 14 years to pass through a sign. So, it may take months to see what is really occurring in our lives with this transit, as its effect often brings confusion and a "spacey" approach to life. Also, we may cling to seeing what we want to see, rather than what is actually in front of us, and that always slows things down quite a bit in order to repeat the lessons that reality must be recognized and accepted for what it is, whether we want to or not.

Positive Affects

The water sign of Pisces is the particular territory of Neptune, and it is here that we come to understand compassion, imagination, intuition, and mystical knowing. We reach for the highest levels of human experience and only want the world around us to understand the healing power of love and cooperation. Neptune brings the understanding at a very deep level of the Unity of all life.

Negative Affects

The challenges of Neptune are deception, delusion, addiction, hypochondria, and blindly attracting experiences that reassure us of our victim hood rather than connecting us to our personal power. It's watery nature heals us through the disappointment inevitable in constantly making naive choices and giving ourselves away too cheaply;encouraging us to make smarter decisions, set boundaries, and to take responsibility for our own actions, instead of blaming the world around us for our pain. We seem to require slow learning to recognize that we are dancing once again with the wolf in sheep's clothing, and that allowing ourselves to slumber, when we need to be wakeful, is painful and costly. In time, we come to find the positive attention of self pride and accomplishment far sweeter than the negative attention of being a victim.
